My top 10 reasons for coaching when life’s great
Last weekend, I was having a conversation with a friend about my business and about why they’re not interested in coaching right now. Their answer was, “I’m content with my life as it is.”
I’ve been mulling over that for the last week - I am also content in my life, there’s so much that’s absolutely great. And still, having a coach is immensely valuable for me. So, here are my top 10 reasons why having a coach matters to me, even when everything is going well:
10 - I have more energy and resources to dedicate to growing toward a version of myself I’m prouder of when my life is otherwise going smoothly.
9 - Coaching builds resilience and the skill to reflect on my behavior and intentionally move forward, before there’s an urgent demand for it in my life.
8 - A fulfilling life, for me, includes a commitment to ongoing learning and continuous growth. Coaching is one of the ways I honor that commitment and create intentional space to learn and grow.
7 - Coaching provides an early warning system when my attention or my desires are shifting and I need to respond to that, by creating space for me to really listen to myself.
6 - Coaching helps me to build the skills and practices in myself that allow me to take advantage of new, exciting opportunities when they appear in my life.
5 - Coaching encourages me to be proactive about continuing to design my life, which allows me to show up for those around me in ways that are more aligned with my values.
4 - I’m fascinated by how human brains work, including my own, and I love having a thinking partner in exploring my thoughts and experience on a regular basis.
3 - It’s very difficult for me to build a trusting relationship with a new professional and manage a current challenge simultaneously. It’s therefore valuable for me to have the trusting relationship already in place when challenges appear in my life (which they consistently do).
2 - Coaching is a reminder to myself that I matter and am worth investing in. For me, it’s a self-care practice that’s similar to how some people view manicures or massages.
1 - Coaching supports me in staying open to awe, to wonder, to joy, and to new possibilities. It supports me in cultivating a vibrance and expansiveness in myself that is part of my life being fantastic and that I love being able to share with those I love.
How about you? What’s important to you to invest in, regardless of how your life is going, and what makes that practice important for you?
