Guiding Principles

  1. Authenticity and vulnerability are skills.

Being authentic and being vulnerable are not binary. They are a set of values, practices, and skills, and they can be learned.

  2. Anyone’s authenticity benefits everyone.

The work to become more authentic and vulnerable has ripple effects throughout the world. The more one person is able to demonstrate skill around authenticity and vulnerability, the more everyone around them is invited to.

  3. Love is abundant.

Love is varied, abundant, and worth cultivating. Skillful authenticity and vulnerability are both invitations to be loved and expressions of love.

  4. There is always choice.

Every action we take changes the world. There is always a choice, and there are no exceptions to integrity. Also, no one’s perfect, this is all hard, it’s a process, we’re constantly learning and improving, and we all deserve grace.

  5. Nuance and complexity exist.

The world and the people in it are messy, nuanced, and complex. Oversimplification is comforting, but often not effective, and sometimes actively harmful. I aim to engage with nuance and complexity in an articulate, approachable, clear way.

  6. You are not broken.

People are unique, beautiful, perfect, and the experts on themselves. People are not broken, lazy, or fundamentally wrong. People learn and grow and change, and that doesn’t come with value judgment about any point on the path.

  7. I serve people.

I serve people, not profit or “the right way to run a business” or “being busy”. If I need to choose between a human and a social construct, I will do my best to choose the human.

  8. Financial accessibility matters.

I strive to balance the ability to maintain a sustainable business with the ability to offer services to the people who are the right fit to work with me, regardless of their financial situation. One of the ways I do this is through my Patreon. If you have the means and willingness to support me there, I’d appreciate it.

I also believe other forms of accessibility matter, and I’m constantly learning how to improve in that regard. If you have feedback, I welcome you sharing it with me.

  9. I am still learning.

I am still learning, don’t have all the answers, and welcome feedback. It is my responsibility to continuously invest in myself and my own growth and education.

  10. I must care for myself.

I cannot serve others without the resources to care for myself. This includes time, money, energy, flexibility, and integrity. In order to keep doing this work, I have to set up my business in a way that is both financially and energetically sustainable for me. This affects everything in my business, most notably my hours and my pricing.
